All my products start with a stmple piece of wood. Directly from a tree.
In contrast to the newer, machine-based woodworking with wood from timber trade, which is offered sawn and dried, traditionally fresh wood is used. This requires different tools, a different method of operation and especially a different way of thinking and looking at the wood your working with. Much more than with machining, you have to take the structure of the wood into account.
The wood structure, with all its grain and knots, has a big influence on how one has work the wood. When you have a certain shape in mind that you want to create, you have to look for a piece of wood that fits in with that structure. One could also reverse the process, starting with the tree or branch, in the specific shape it has grown. That shape then determines what your workpiece will look like.
